BJ is 11 weeks today! In celebration of this milestone (come on - doesn't everyone celebrate the all important 11 week birthday?!) here is a list of 11 things you may not know about BJ:
1. BJ sucks his hand. When BJ gets hungry you will hear suck, suck, suck. That's BJ sucking on one hand (no preference which one) or both if he's really hungry. Let him go long enough and you will hear him clicking when he sucks. It's almost like a ticking time bomb:)
2. BJ sleeps in his bouncer. Thanks Auntie Autumn for this wonderful gift! Ever since BJ was days old he has slept in his bouncer at night. I now attribute it to the fact that he has reflux and needs to be propped up to sleep.
3. BJ doesn't take long naps during the day. It is rare for BJ to sleep for more than 30 minutes at a time during the day - if you are not holding him that is. If he's all cozy in your arms he'll sleep for hours. But mommy can't get anything done that way. So he gets put down in his bassinet or the crib. The breaks don't last long but you'd be amazed at how fast I move when BJ is sleeping!
4. BJ can put himself to sleep at night. When it's time for bed you can put BJ to bed in his bouncer when he's wide awake and eventually he'll fall asleep. Last night I laid him down at 10:30pm. He was wide awake. Brian and I were sleepy. We went to bed. BJ stayed up. But at least he was quiet. I have no idea what time he actually went to sleep. He was up again for an hour between 4:00am and 5:00am. But he nicely sat in his bouncer while mommy and daddy slept. He's a good baby.
5. BJ likes to travel. I'm not talking about long car trips (BJ doesn't like his car seat too much - see #9). BJ likes to be held facing out while you walk around. You can't sit when you hold BJ. He needs to be moving. It makes for a long day.
6. BJ's happy place is his changing table. When BJ is on his changing table he is the happiest baby around! He coos, he smiles, he puts on a show! I don't know what it is about it but it's always a joy to change his diaper (except when it's an explosive poo. BJ might be smiling but mommy is covering her nose.)
7. BJ's favorite toy is a little piano. I consider our family to be musical. Both Brian and I play the piano and we hope to have a piano in the house when BJ gets a little older so he can experience music too. So I shouldn't be surprised that his favorite toy is a little piano that lights up and plays music. It could just be the lights that keep him entertained but hey...I think he's a little pianist in the making :)
8. You have to work for one of BJ's smiles. BJ likes to avoid your gaze. And if he looks at you it is often just a stare. To make him smile you really need to be dedicated to the task. And you have to keep your eyes on him because the smiles are very quick. Except if you are mommy or daddy. He smiles all the time for us!
9. BJ hates being restrained. He never liked to be swaddled. He hates being stuck in the car seat. He even hates wearing hats and having his shirts put on.
10. When BJ nurses he grabs his hair with one hand. This is a relatively new trick of BJ's since he's gained more muscle control. He'll grab on to the long hair on the top of his head and nurse away. If you remove his hand he'll just put it back up there. Adorable!
11. You can't do anything with BJ's hair. You'll see evidence when we post his 9 week professional pictures. His hair naturally spikes. And now that it's growing longer it's kind of a lopsided mohawk - the hair leans to the right. Even if you try to smooth it down with water it'll just poof back up when it's dry. The only time his hair is flat is when it's greasy - and then he needs a bath so it gets all spikey again. I absolutely love his hair!!!
